Day 2

Info
  • Left Wilcannia at 7am, refuelled at Broken Hill before pressing onto the Mindee Mindee plains. What a sight coming over the rise and seeing the spectacular sight of the plains as far as the eye can see. Talked to 5 people from Wales in the UK and they were gobsmacked. Drove back to Silverton,  had morning tea the cafe, fresh damper and fresh scones, delicious. Bought an old bottle for our “trip collection cabinet”. Saw the Mad Max museum. Went to a couple of art galleries, Brett asked me to pick a painting, got a lovely one from Cowz  Art Gallery for $600 called “Drought”, there are 3 in the set so will have to buy the others at a later date.

Crossed the SA border and not thinking about the fruit and veg quarantine were loaded with punnets of strawberries, mandarines, apples, avocado, punnets of tomatoes, cucumbers – they let us keep our lettuce lol. I said to the man out of all things we can keep its the most boring. We told Lily for about half an hour before the inspection point that she’d have to have a blood test to see if she’d eaten any fruit, explained it wouldn’t hurt too much. She says “well why would you let me eat fruit if you knew I’d have to have a needle” was so funny when we told the inspector, he cracked up. Lily says we are horrible parents lol.

Took a few photos along the way. Drove through Peterborough and onto Port Augusta, got there at 5.45pm. Booked into the Big 4 Caravan Park, was 40.5 degrees. Set up quickly then went for a swim in the pool. For some bizarre reason the pool shut at 7pm??? Also opened at 9am WTH! Why we wondered? Went out for dinner to a place recommended on Trip Advisor. Great meal, Brett and I both felt like a steak and both were the most tender steaks we’ve ever eaten. Lily got the fish – of course.  Was stinking hot all night.
